Science and Policy a+ Commission

The Association of Academies a+ has a mandate from the federal government to shape the dialogue between the scientific community and politics. The Science and Policy Commission encourages this core mission transversely.

Which issues are urgently affecting society and will continue to do so in future? How can the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences help political players to counter these challenges through well-founded decisions? The Science and Policy Commission serves as a central platform for the exchange of best practices. It is composed of representatives of the member organisations. Its core issues are, pursuant to the multi-year planning of the academies, long-term challenges such as climate, energy, biodiversity, genetic engineering, poverty and national or global crises. Its aim is to enhance the effectiveness of the current dialogue with the political community.

As a strategic body, the commission provides impulses, examines processes and observes current developments. It also profiles and strengthens individual association members without interfering in their thematic autonomy.
