    Swiss STEM promotion hits a glass ceiling – a systemic approach should allow for more trained specialists

    The promotion of STEM skills in Switzerland can only develop its full impact if it is approached more strategically and on a broader front and accompanied by progress in equal opportunities. This is illustrated in a study published on 14 May 2025 by the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences on behalf of the Swiss Parliament. An approach of this kind not only increases the number of trained specialists, but also creates advantages in other social areas.

    Swiss Young Academy elects eight new members

    The Swiss Young Academy will admit eight new members at its next Members' Assembly meeting. The newly elected members impressed with their scientific profile, their original ideas for shaping the science system and their commitment to dialogue between science, society and politics. Over the next five years, they will work together with the existing 26 members of the Young Academy on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects that will provide new impetus.

    Tour d'Horizon 2024 published

    For the twentieth time, thanks to contributions from the community, td-net has compiled a list of key literature from 2024 in the field of inter- and transdisciplinary research, education and practice. 57 publications, are classified into 5 categories with short annotations from the contributors.     Digitalisation means a radical change for the Swiss financial system. In the near future, technology companies, but also central banks, could develop and issue new virtual forms of money. TA-SWISS would like to stimulate a debate about this in society as a whole and is launching a new study on this topic. The deadline for submitting project outlines is 4 November 2022.

    CAS One Health: Sustainable health for humans, animals and the environment

    To successfully tackle the complex problems of our time, all disciplines, sectors and population groups must work together. This also applies to medicine. That is why the One Health approach aims to restore the balance between humans, animals and ecosystems. The University of Bern is launching Switzerland's first CAS on this topic. The program starts in September 2025 and the application deadline is 31 May 2025.

    smarter medicine: Top 5 lists for occupational therapy and pharmacy

    The association «Smarter Medicine – Choosing Wisely Switzerland», of which the SAMS is a member, is committed to optimising healthcare in Switzerland. It encourages professional societies to draw up Top 5 lists defining interventions that should be avoided altogether or only used under specific conditions. In April 2025, the Swiss Association of Occupational Therapists (ASE) and the Pharmaceutical Care Network Switzerland (PCN-S) published their Top 5 lists.
