Gut funktionierende interprofessionelle Teams werden heute als entscheidender Bestandteil eines nachhaltigen Gesundheitssystems angesehen. Mit der praktischen Umsetzung harzt es allerdings. Die Studie der SAMW hat untersucht, welche Faktoren die interprofessionelle Zusammenarbeit (IPZ) bremsen und welche sie fördern und stellt einen Bezug zur Theorie komplexer Systeme her. In diesem Modell streben Systeme nach einem Zustand des Gleichgewichts, dem Normalfall.
Im Gesundheitssystem entspricht die Professionalität dem Normalfall, während IPZ eine Abweichung und somit eine Veränderung des Gleichgewichts bedeutet. In leitfadengestützten Interviews mit Gesundheitsfachleuten hat das Autorenteam untersucht, welche Kräfte in dieser Situation verbindend und welche auseinanderstrebend wirken.
