Klima und Biodiversität gemeinsam schützen
Die Biodiversitäts- und die Klimakrise hängen zusammen und verstärken sich gegenseitig. Umso wichtiger sei es, die beiden Krisen integral anzugehen, schreiben Forschende in einem neuen Faktenblatt der Akademie der Naturwissenschaften Schweiz. Viele Massnahmen wie die Reduktion des CO2-Ausstosses sowie Schutz und Renaturierung von Ökosystemen wirken gegen beide Krisen. Wo potenziell Zielkonflikte bestehen – etwa beim Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien – müssen Massnahmen besonders umsichtig umgesetzt werden, damit sie die jeweils andere Krise nicht noch verschärfen. «Es ist wichtig, das Silodenken zu überwinden», sagt Markus Fischer von der Universität Bern und vom Kuratorium Forum Biodiversität. «Es wäre deshalb sinnvoll und effizient, die bislang weitgehend getrennten Klima- und Biodiversitätspolitiken in der Schweiz gemeinsam weiter zu entwickeln und Umsetzungsmassnahmen vermehrt zusammen anzugehen.»

“Female role models are a big topic in my discipline.”
As a child, she used to gaze at the night sky over Uruguay with her grandfather. Today, she simulates planet formation on computer clusters and chases planets with CHEOPS. Together with the Young Academy, she has conducted a survey on the reasons why young people leave an academic career. One of her findings was that women still have to fight harder.
