Um eine lebenswerte Zukunft für alle zu sichern, müsste die Gesellschaft die Klimaerwärmung eindämmen und sich vor deren Folgen schützen. Im zweiten Teil des 6. Sachstandsberichtes untersucht der Weltklimarat IPCC die Folgen des Klimawandels, die Verletzlichkeit von Mensch und Natur und die Möglichkeiten sich anzupassen. Die umfassende Analyse zeigt deutlich: Mit fortschreitender Erwärmung vervielfachen sich die Risiken und die Anpassungsfähigkeit von Mensch und Natur wird zunehmend überschritten.

    Neuroscience: Robert Bing Prize for two outstanding researchers

    The Robert Bing Prize 2026 is awarded to two outstanding neuroscientists: Eduardo Martin Moraud, assistant professor at EPFL, is being distinguished for his translational research on movement disorders, notably in relation to Parkinson’s disease. Aiman S. Saab, professor at the University of Zurich, is honored for his fundamental contributions to understanding how glial cells help maintain neuronal and brain function. Each prize is worth 30’000 francs.

    International Coalition for Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine

    The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences have joined the International Coalition for Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine. Established at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome in July 2025, the coalition provides a platform for coordinating support for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s science and innovation system. Switzerland is represented in the coalition by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), and the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. By joining the coalition, the Swiss Academies express their solidarity with scientists in Ukraine and support the exchange within the framework of the coalition.
