Announcement of NRP Thematic Proposal Round
National research programmes (NRPs) are the federal government’s research funding tool to support research projects that develop knowledge useful in guiding decisions and practices – and thereby help to solve current social and economic challenges. NRPs usually run between two and five years. In preparation for the launch of two to three new NRPs, the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) is currently seeking thematic proposals for new NRPs. The closing date for submission of NRP thematic proposals to SERI is March 23th 2022.

Innovation – an ongoing challenge
Although Switzerland is regarded as a world leader in innovation, technology transfer is faltering. This is evident from a number of findings in the SATW’s 2024 Innovation Capacity Analysis: The proportion of companies engaged in research and development is falling, and the share of turnover generated by new products has declined, particularly among SMEs, which form the backbone of the Swiss economy. TecDay at Bäumlihof Grammar School: Experience technology, discover the future
On 15 October 2026, Bäumlihof Grammar School was transformed into a place of discovery, experimentation and discussion. As part of TecDay, around 530 pupils had the opportunity to explore current topics in technology, natural sciences and computer science across 33 modules. Four outstanding female researchers receive the “Swiss L’Oréal – UNESCO For Women in Science 2026” award
The “Swiss L’Oréal – UNESCO For Women in Science” prize has been awarded for the second time. The award honors four exceptional early-career scientists for their excellent research. The ceremony took place on 21 October 2026 at the Zürcher Kammerorchester (ZKO) in Zurich.
