Akademien unterstützen Covid-19 Science Taskforce weiterhin
Marcel Tanner, Präsident der Akademien der Wissenschaften Schweiz, zieht sich im Rahmen der Neuorganisation der Task force als Leiter der Expertengruppe Public Health der Covid-19 Science Taskforce des Bundes zurück. «Die Arbeit vor allem auch in der Public Health Gruppe war spannend. Es war schön zu sehen, wie wir es immer wieder geschafft haben, innert kürzester Zeit gemeinsam und transdisziplinär Grundlagen und Handlungsoptionen für drängende politische Massnahmen zu erarbeiten.» Er gebe das Mandat nun ab, weil er nach dem Aufbau der Taskforce als Präsident der Akademien ein Doppelmandat vermeiden wolle. «Die Covid-19 Taskforce funktioniert gut und nun bin ich zusammen mit den Präsidenten von Nationalfonds, swissuniversities und ETH-Rat wieder in der Rolle der vier tragenden Säulen des Wissenschaftssystems». Dass die Politik nicht immer sofort alles umsetzen könne, liege in der Natur der Sache. «Wissenschaft und Politik haben unterschiedliche Realitäten. Die Wissenschaft kann aufzeigen, wie Massnahmen wirken oder was ohne Massnahmen passiert.» Als Präsident der Akademien bleibe er mit der Covid-19 Science Taskforce auch künftig eng und unterstützend verbunden.

smarter medicine: Top 5 list on headaches published
The association «smarter medicine – Choosing Wisely Switzerland», of which the SAMS is a member, is committed to providing optimal healthcare in Switzerland. It encourages professional societies to draw up Top 5 lists defining interventions that should be avoided altogether or only used under specific conditions. In February 2026, the Swiss Headache Society (SHS) published such a list.

New healthcare institutions onboarded to SPHN
Six new healthcare institutions have been onboarded to the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN). These include five cantonal hospitals and the Swiss Cancer Institute, which are now ready to contribute clinical data to multi-site research projects in personalized medicine. This is a key achievement in the ongoing effort to extend and standardize health data exchange across Swiss healthcare institutions.

SPHN: Clinical data from 800’000 patients unlocked
After eight years of coordinated effort, the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) released the metadata of a uniquely rich national clinical dataset, spanning more than 800’000 patients and billions of semantically harmonized data points across diagnoses, procedures, labs, medications, vital signs, and more. Researchers can now easily discover what data exists in Switzerland and how to access it.
