Akademien unterstützen Covid-19 Science Taskforce weiterhin
Marcel Tanner, Präsident der Akademien der Wissenschaften Schweiz, zieht sich im Rahmen der Neuorganisation der Task force als Leiter der Expertengruppe Public Health der Covid-19 Science Taskforce des Bundes zurück. «Die Arbeit vor allem auch in der Public Health Gruppe war spannend. Es war schön zu sehen, wie wir es immer wieder geschafft haben, innert kürzester Zeit gemeinsam und transdisziplinär Grundlagen und Handlungsoptionen für drängende politische Massnahmen zu erarbeiten.» Er gebe das Mandat nun ab, weil er nach dem Aufbau der Taskforce als Präsident der Akademien ein Doppelmandat vermeiden wolle. «Die Covid-19 Taskforce funktioniert gut und nun bin ich zusammen mit den Präsidenten von Nationalfonds, swissuniversities und ETH-Rat wieder in der Rolle der vier tragenden Säulen des Wissenschaftssystems». Dass die Politik nicht immer sofort alles umsetzen könne, liege in der Natur der Sache. «Wissenschaft und Politik haben unterschiedliche Realitäten. Die Wissenschaft kann aufzeigen, wie Massnahmen wirken oder was ohne Massnahmen passiert.» Als Präsident der Akademien bleibe er mit der Covid-19 Science Taskforce auch künftig eng und unterstützend verbunden.

Introducing Compassionate Science: how empathy and compassion are reshaping research
Scientific research traditionally relies on objectivity, methodological rigor, and measurable outputs. Yet a growing body of scholarship recognises that these values need not come at the expense of relationships, ethical responsibility, and attentiveness to the people and communities that research aims to serve. “Compassionate Science” was developed to address this gap, and to encourage reflection on how compassion can be meaningfully embedded in research practice, whatever the discipline. ‘Space technology should improve life on Earth’ – Barbara Frei-Spreiter on the Swiss space programme, caught between the global market and security policy
Since April 2026, Dr Barbara Frei-Spreiter has been at the helm of Beyond Gravity, the largest Swiss aerospace supplier operating internationally, with 12 sites across six countries. She is taking the helm of this federally-owned company at a time of two major turning points: in 2025, Parliament decided to retain control with the federal government; space has been Switzerland’s official military domain of operations since October 2025; and, following a year of losses, the group is in the midst of a turnaround.
