Science@Noon: Compassionate Science
This edition of Science@Noon will explore how compassion can become a guiding principle for rigorous and responsible research.

The three presentations will examine compassion at different levels: within researchers and scientific culture; through participatory, community-based approaches to supporting people facing serious illness, dying, and loss; and through non-invasive methods and the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) in wildlife research.
The discussion will consider what compassionate science looks like in practice, whether current research systems sufficiently recognise it, and how compassion can strengthen both ethical responsibility and research quality.
The event is linked to the Swiss Young Academy's report "Compassionate Science: Integrating Empathy and Compassion in Research" and to a series of video interviews with early-career researchers on the topic (report and video interviews).
Speakers:
Clément Meier, Postdoctoral Researcher, Swiss Centre of Expertise in Life Course Researche (LIVES), University of Lausanne and Spokesperson of the Young Academy of Switzerland
Louise D’Eer, Postdoctoral Researcher, End-of-Life Care Research Group, Ghent University, Belgium
Miriam Zemanova, Senior Research Associate and Lecturer, Environmental Sciences and Humanities Institute, University of Fribourg
Moderation: Astrid Tomczak-Plewka, Lead Scientific Communication, Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences
The event is free of charge and will be held in English.
